Among the cycling routes of county significance the most important place holds the Circular county route that connects all four routes of the state significance and both cross-border routes, and with its 163 kilometres it is the longest route in the Krapina-Zagorje County. Its most attractive sections are on asphalt roads with little traffic. Since many parts of this route lead over the ridges of Zagorje hills with nice views, there are many ascents and descents on it, so it is not recommended for bikers out of shape and it is recommended to divide it into several days. The route begins in the capital city of the Krapina-Zagorje County Krapina at the central Ljudevit Gaj square 1, where it starts in southern direction on the Promenade of Croatian national revival, the same route section as the main state route nr. 6 “Zagorje route”. At the end of the promenade carefully cross the street of Ante Starčević 2 and ride for 750 meters on the nice pedestrian-cycling path. At the bridge over Krapinica turn right 3, after 100 meters at the T intersection 4 turn left and then immediately right over the
railroad into the place Bobovje. Ride for 400 meters and then at the Y intersection 5 turn right uphill, while the Zagorje route continues to the straight left. After the ascent there is a descent to the underpass under the highway Zagreb – Krapina, and then at the intersection 6 turn right to the barely 300 meters long, but very steep ascent (you might need to push the bike). Following next is a descent to the picturesque valley of the creek Pačetina, where you at the T intersection 7 turn right. After 1,1 km at the intersection 8 turn sharply left, and at the next Y intersection 9 continue to the right. The path continues flat, and then a short ascent follows and immediately after it comes the descent, after which, at exactly 10 km from the route start, you arrive to the intersection 10, where you turn half-right towards Svedruža. Next is 1,5 km of the road with a short ascent and descent, and then you arrive at the T intersection 11 where you turn right. After 400 meters, at the next T intersection 12 continue straight forward to the main, but not too busy state road D-206. You will pass by the castle Bežanec and soon arrive to the intersection 13 with the important
and pretty busy state road D-507, where you carefully turn right. Ride for the next 1,5 km on the main road (you can also use the side-walk), and then turn first left 14 to the quiet local road, and after another 500 meters right 15 towards Pregrada. Ride for another 2 kilometres and at 16,9 km from the route start turn left 16 and ride carefully 200 meters on the state road D-507 to the centre of the city Pregrada, where the route continues to the left. But, we recommend you to continue for 400 meters off the route straight forward, to take a look of the Church of our Lady Kunagora, which is, because of its monumentality, affectionately called the “Zagorje cathedral”, and here are also many stores and restaurants, where you can rest. If you will not go to the church continue to the left and ride for the next 7,8 km on the somewhat busy, but picturesque county road to Desinić. On that road you will pass two short and one long ascent with height difference of 90 meters, at the foot of the famous shrine of Majka Božja Vinagorska (Mother of God of Vinagora) (if you have time and strength it is worth to visit it because of the beauty of the church and magnificent views). In the centre of Desinić, known for the legend of Veronika Desinić, at the beautiful church of Sv. Juraj (St. George) 17 turn right towards Miljana and ride for the next 2,7 km on somewhat quiet county road and a slight ascent next to the known excursion site “Grešna Gorica” to the 800 meters long branch
that leads to the most beautiful castle in the county, Court Veliki Tabor. If you will not go to the Veliki Tabor turn left 18 on the 11 km long marked local cycling route to Kumrovec. It is the one of the most beautiful parts of the route that leads over the quiet local road on top of the hills with wonderful views. After 1,1 km at the T intersection 19 turn right, and after another 5,2 km at the top of the hill first turn left 20 and then immediately right downhill towards Kumrovec.
Ride for another 3 km and at 38,2 km from the route start you will arrive to the west entrance to the Museum Old village Kumrovec, where the state route Sutla starts and where you connect with the Toplice route. Here at the T intersection 21 turn left next to the birth house of Josip Broz Tito, at the end of the Museum Old village Kumrovec turn first right 22 and then immediately left on the state road D-205. Ride carefully for 300 meters on the state road and then turn 23 left on the picturesque local road. After two short ascents you will arrive on the top of the hill 24, where you turn right and then immediately left downhill. Next is the T intersection 25 where you turn right, and at the next intersection after 400 meters at the crucifix 26 turn again right towards Klanjec, while the Toplice route turns left. After 1,1 km you will arrive to the picturesque pass Zelenjak, where the monument to the Croatian anthem is situated. On your right there is a known restaurant “Villa Zelenjak-Ventek”, while you turn left 27 on the state road D-205 and ride carefully for the next 1,3 km. At the first intersection get off from the state road to the right 28, and after another 800 meters 29 left towards Klanjec. Following next is a difficult ascent with 80 meters of height difference up to the centre of the city Klanjec, where you can visit the Gallery of Antun Augustinčić, Studio Gallery of Antun Augustinčić and Franciscan monastery, as well as rest and refresh. In the centre of Klanjec at the church turn right 30 towards Sveti Florijan (St. Florian), where another attractive part of the route on the local road on top of the hills with nice views awaits you. First kilometre from Klanjec runs on an asphalt road, and then at the intersection continue straight forward 31 on the pleasant macadam road. After 2,6 km at the crucifix turn right 32 and you arrive soon on the asphalt again. Soon you will come to the T intersection 33, where you turn left, and after another 500 meters at the crucifix 34 again left. After 800 meters at the intersection at another crucifix 35 turn right downhill and then immediately right again. Soon you will come to the valley and the road with priority right, where you at the Y intersection 36 turn right. Ride for another kilometre and at the next Y intersection turn 37 left on the county road that also has priority right and is somewhat wider and more busy (caution). After 2,3 km ride, at the famous excursion site “Dva potoka”
(Two creeks) the route enters the Zagreb-County, and after another 3,8 km you will come to the Y intersection 38 where you turn left towards the place Luka. The Circular county route runs here shortly on the same section as the Zagorje route, but after less than one kilometre at the St. Rok church it branches off from it to the right 39. Following next is a 2,8 km ride to the place Jakovlje on the county road Ž-3008, where you must use the overpasses to cross over the state road nr. 1 and the highway Zagreb – Krapina. After you arrive to Jakovlje at the intersection 40 with the main road continue straight forward and ride for 7,3 km through Jakovlje and Kraljev Vrh (King’s Peak) with the nice church of Sveta Tri Kralja (Holy Three Kings). Soon you will be back in the Krapina-Zagorje County where at the Y intersection 41 with the main road you turn left (caution). After only 200 meters turn right 42 on the quiet local road and then immediately left on to the mild ascent. Ride for 800 meters on the ridge of the hill and then turn right 43 downhill. After 400 meters at two consecutive T intersections turn both times left 44 and then immediately on the Y intersection turn right. Ride for another 750 meters and after arrival to the main road 45 turn right (caution). After 300 meters of the ride on the pretty busy county road at the Y intersection you are encountering even more busy state road D-307 where you turn right 46 into the popular excursion place Stubičke Toplice. Here, at 75 km from the route start, many possibilities for rest and refreshment are being offered. In Stubičke Toplice ride carefully 500 meters on the state road, but you can also use partially the side-walk and the path through the local park, and then you turn right 47 in the quiet street of Zagorje Brigades (Ulica Zagorskih Brigada). Ride for another 500 meters and at the Y intersection 48 turn sharply left and then immediately left again. At the intersection with the road with priority right 49 continue straight forward and after 1,2 km carefully at the T intersection at Thermae “Jezerčica” 50 go back right on the state road. Here awaits you somewhat unpleasant part of the Circular county route on the busy state road D-307 through the city Donja Stubica. After 3,4 km at the Y intersection 51 continue to the left towards Marija Bistrica, but we recommend you to go shortly off the route and turn right for 1,6 km to Gornja Stubica, so that you can visit the nice Sv. Juraj (St. George) church and the famous Gubec’s lime tree, where, according to legend, peasants gathered and went to the battles during the Peasants’ revolt, and from where a beautiful view of Stubica valley is offered. If you continue straight forward on the main road, ride for another 800 meters and in the place Samci turn right 52 in direction of the Museum of Peasants’ revolts, using the section of the local route “Gupčevim krajem” (Through Gubec’s land). Ridefor another 800 meters uphill on the quiet road and then, at the castle Oršić make sure you turn right 53 so that you can visit the monument to Matija Gubec and enjoy the magnificent view. Go back to the main road and turn right 54 downhill and after you arrive to the picturesque valley of the creek Burnjak at the T intersection 55 go left. After 1,3 km of ride turn left uphill 56 and then immediately right on the section of the marked local route. When you arrive to the intersection on top of the hill continue straight forward 57 downhill. Soon you will arrive to the T intersection where you turn again right 58 on the state road D-307, and after 900 meters turn left 59 on the quiet local road. Ride next to the known restaurant “Lojzekova hiža” (Lojzek’s house) until you get to the T intersection 60, where you turn right and connect with the Toplice route. After another 2,5 km you will arrive to the state road D-307 and continue carefully 61 straight forward. The next part of the journey includes 3,5 km ride on the somewhat busy road and one short descent, after which, at 96,3 km from the route start, you will arrive to the main Marian shrine Marija Bistrica. Here, at the first intersection 62 turn left and after 300 meters continue straight forward uphill to the square of Ivana Pavla II (John Paul II) and the Bistrica shrine, but carefully, because one part of the road before square is a one-way street. On the square you can rest and refresh, and then continue left in the Gornjoselska street 63 towards Konjščina, while the Toplice  route turns right towards Zelina. Following next is a 8 km ride to Konjščina on the relatively quiet county road through the hilly landscape with one short ascent and one, somewhat longer, descent. Be careful not to go off the county road, because
there are two points where the local marked routes of the municipality Marija Bistrica branch of it. After you arrive to Konjščina and cross the railroad turn sharply right 64 in the Ribička ulica (Fisherman’s street) and then immediately again right on the more busy county road. After 850 meters turn left 65 on the local road, and after 1,1 km at the T intersection turn 66 right. Following next is an exceptionally nice part of the Circular county route on the quiet local 9,5 km long road through the thinly populated lightly wavy landscape to Hrašćina. After 4,7 km without turning you will arrive to two consecutive intersections, where you first turn left 67 and after 300 meters again left. We recommend you to, right before you arrive to Hrašćina, turn shortly right for 900 meters to the unique monument of the fall of the Hrašćan meteorite, marked with ‘brown’
road sign. After you arrive to the centre of the municipality Hrašćina, in the place Trgovišće, continue at the T intersection straight forward 68 on the county road with priority right, and after 1,6 km ride on the downhill turn right 69 on the local road alongside the river Krapina. Ride for 2,5 km, and then, at the Y intersection 70 turn sharply left on the state road D-24. Ride carefully for 700 meters on the somewhat busy state road, and then, in the centre of the place Budinšćina, at 122 km from the route start, at the circular intersection 71 continue straight forward towards Belec. Following next is a 5,1 km ride on the somewhat wider and hilly, but beautiful and not too busy county road, and then, in Gornja Selnica, turn left 72 on the even more beautiful local road with almost no traffic. Ride for 800 meters and at the T intersection 73 turn right, and after another 600 meters and a short sharp ascent turn back left 74 on the county road. Ride 500 meters and then go again off from the main road to the right 75 on the picturesque local road on top of the hills. After 500 meters turn left 76 downhill and after 1,1 km come back again to the right 77 on the main road. A short descent follows and then a descent, and you will arrive to Belec, where be sure to visit the famous church of Sveta Marija Snježna (St. Mary Major).
Continue for the next 2,5 km on the main road first downhill then uphill, and
then at the Y intersection turn right 78 on the local road to Martinšćina. Ride for
2,1 km and then turn left 79 downhill, and after 900 meters, at the T intersection
80 turn again left. Ride for another 500 meters and then, at the Y intersection 81
go right on the narrow local road towards Lobor. After 1,1 km ride mostly downhill you will arrive to the T intersection 82 where you turn left and then immediately right on the county road, which will lead you, after 2 km, to the picturesque place Lobor. Here we recommend you to rest because of the sequence that follows straight forward, but if you have enough time and energy, turn at the circular intersection to the right and visit the 1,5 km distant shrine of Majka Božja Gorska (Mother of God Gorska) on the hill, where there is an unforgettable view of the Zagorje landscape. The route continues straight forward at the circular intersection 83 through Stari Golubovec. It is one of the most attractive and most special parts of the route, because it leads on the 10 km road with very few traffic and places, mostly through forests. There is only one important intersection on this section, 4,9 km from Lobor, where, after the serpentine on the downhill, you must, at the second intersection, turn 84 right (be careful not to miss the turn) on the enchanting narrow road over the foothills of Ivančica. Keep straight all the time and after 4,8 km you will arrive
to the centre of Novi Golubovec, where you turn right 85 on the state road D-29.
Ride 400 meters and then, carefully, at the Y intersection 86 turn right on the much more busy and dangerous state road D-35 towards Varaždin (you can use also the side-walk). After 1,2 km turn left 87 on the local road next to the stone pit, ride for 1,6 km through the valley and at the branch to Jesenje 88 continue straight forward. Following next is perhaps the most demanding part of the route – 1,1 km of very steep ascent with height difference of 125 meters to Gorjani Sutinski, to the highest point of the route with 430 meters above sea level. But, pushing the bike uphill will pay off with a magnificent view of the big part of Croatian Zagorje. The path continues straight forward, first downhill, then uphill to the place Radoboj, where you should, at the circular intersection 89, continue straight forward and then soon again straight forward on the county road with priority right that comes from the left. After 3 km ride through the hilly landscape with several sharp ascents and descents you will arrive to the shrine Trški Vrh within reach of Krapina, where you continue carefully on the main road downhill left 90. After arrival to Krapina turn at the curve left 91 in the Kardinal Alojzije Stepinac street and ride for 300 meters to the street of Ljudevit Gaj. Turn here right 92 and after 250 meters and 163 km from the route start you arrived again to the starting point of the route 1 in the centre of Krapina. Since Ljudevit Gaj street is one way in northern direction, if you want to ride the County route in the opposite direction, on Ljudevit Gaj square continue for 140 meters through the Magistratska street in northern direction. After that turn 93 right in the Uska ulica (Narrow street) and then immediately again right to the Vladimir Nazor street. At the church turn left uphill 94 and ride under the overpass to the intersection with Hebrang street under the Trški Vrh. Here, we recommend you to avoid the difficult and relatively long ride uphill on the busy road to Trški Vrh and to continue instead straight forward 95 and push the bike on the very steep, but vehicles-free Miroslav Krleža street to the Trški Vrh and the intersection 90, where the route continues the same way in both directions.

16. Turn carefully left on the state road and after 200 m sharply left (if you want to visit the centre of Pregrada and take abreak and refresh, continue straight forward).
17. In the centre of Desinić at the church turn right towards Miljana.
18. At the Dvor Veliki Tabor branch turn left on the local road, but you can also turn and visit shortly the castle.
19. Atthe T intersection turn right.
20. At the top of the hill turn first left and then immediately right downhill.
21. At theentrance to the Museum Old village Kumrovec turn left next to the birth house of Josip Broz Tito.
22. At the exit from theMuseum Old village Kumrovec turn first right and then immediately left on the state road D-205.
23. Ride carefully for300 m on the D-205 and then turn left.
24. At the top of the hill turn right and then immediately left downhill.
25. Atthe T intersection turn right.
26. At the intersection with a crucifix turn right towards Klanjec.
27. At the monument tothe Croatian anthem in Zelenjak turn left on the state road D-205 (caution).
28. At the first intersection go off thestate road to the right.
29. After 800 m turn left uphill towards Klanjec.
30. In the centre of Klanjec (a goodplace for rest and refreshment after the difficult ascent) at the church turn right towards Sveti Florijan(St. Florian).
31. After 1 km continue straight forward on the pleasant macadam road.
32. Rideon the macadam for 2,6 km, and then, at the crucifix, turn right and soon you will reachasphalt again.
33. At the T intersection turn left.
34. After 500 m, at the crucifix, turnagain left.
35. At the intersection, atanother crucifix, turn right downhill andthen immediately again right.
36. Atthe Y intersection with the road withpriority right turn right.
37. Ride foranother kilometre and then, at the next Yintersection turn left on the wide countyroad that also has priority right – you can stopat the excursion site “Dva potoka” (Two creeks).
38. Atthe Y intersection turn left towards place Luka.
39. At the church turnright.
40. After you arrive to Jakovlje, at the intersection with the main road, continue straightforward.
41. At the Y intersection with the main road turn left (caution).
42. After 200 m turn right on the quiet localroad and then immediately left slightly uphill.
43. Ride on the ridge of the hill and then turn right downhill.
44. After400 m, at two consecutive T intersections, turn both times left and then immediately, at the Y intersection, right.
45. When you arrive to the main road turn right (caution).
46. After 300 m, at the Y intersection, turn right on the stateroad D-307 (caution) and you will arrive to Stubičke Toplice, where you can rest and refresh.
47. Ride carefully for 500 mon the state road, and then turn right in the quiet street Ulica Zagorskih Brigada (Street of Zagorje Brigades).
48. Ride500 m and at the T intersection turn sharply left and then immediately again left.
49. At the intersection with the roadwith priority right continue straight forward.
50. At Thermae “Jezerčica”, at the T intersection, turn carefully right on thestate road.
51. At the Y intersection continue to the left towards Marija Bistrica (you can also turn shortly right to GornjaStubica to the church of St. George (Sv. Juraj) and Gubec’s lime tree).
52. Turn right in direction of the Museum of peasants’revolts.
53. At the castle Oršić turn right to visit the monument of Matija Gubec.
54. Go back to the main road and turnright downhill.
55. When you arrive to the valley, at the T intersection, go left.
56. Turn left uphill and then immediatelyright.
57. When you arrive on the top of the hill continue straight forward downhill.
58. At the T intersection turn righton the state road D-307.
59. After 900 m turn left on the quiet local road in direction of the restaurant “Lojzekova hiža”(Lojzek’s house).
60. At the T intersection turn right.
61. When you arrive to the state road D-307, carefully continuestraight forward.
62. In Marija Bistrica first turn left, then after 300 m continue straight forward to the Ivan Pavao II (JohnPaul II) square – ideal place for rest and refreshment.
63. From the square continue left through the Gornjoselska ulicatowards Konjščina.
64. When you arrive to Konjščina, after crossing the railroad, turn sharply right in the Ribička ulica(Fisherman’s street) and then immediately again right on the county road.
65. Turn left on the local road.
66. At the Tintersection turn right.
67. At the two consecutive intersections turn both times left.
68. After arrival to the centre of themunicipality Hrašćina, at the T intersection continue straight forward downhill on the county road with priority right.
69. Turn right on the local road alongside the river Krapina.
70. At the Y intersection turn sharply left on the state roadD-24 (caution).
71. At the circular intersection in the centre of Budinščina continue straight forward towards Belec.
72. InGornja Selnica turn left on the local road.
73. At the T intersection turn right.
74. After a short but steep ascent go backleft on the county road.
75. Ride 500 m and then go off the main road to the right.
76. After 500 m turn left downhill.
77. Go right, back to the main road and ride downhill.
78. At the Y intersection, after passing through Belec, turn right onthe local road towards Martinšćina.
79. After 2,1 km turn left downhill.
80. At the T intersection turn again left.
81. Ride500 m and then, at the Y intersection, go right on the local road towards Lobor.
82. At the T intersection turn left and thenimmediately right on the county road.
83. At the circular intersection in the centre of Lobor continue straight forwardtowards Stari Golubovec, but you can also rest before you continue through the forest landscape.
84. After the serpentineon the downhill, at the second intersection, turn right on the narrow local road (be careful not to miss the turn).
85. In thecentre of Novi Golubovec turn right on the state road D-29.
86. Ride 400 m and then, carefully, at the Y intersection, turnright on the busy and dangerous state road D-35 towards Varaždin.
87. After 1,2 km turn left on the local road next to thestone pit.
88. At the branch to Jesenje continue straight forward on the steep ascent.
89. In the centre of Radoboj, atthe circular intersection, continue straight forward and then immediately again straight forward on the county road withpriority right that comes from the left.
90. At the shrine Trški Vrh go carefully on the main road downhill left.
91. Whenyou arrive to Krapina turn at the curve left in the Kardinal Alojzije Stepinac street.
92. At the intersection with the LjudevitGaj street in the centre of Krapina turn right and after 250 m you arrived back to the starting point of the route.
93. If youstart on the County route in eastern direction, ride through the Magistratska street for 140 m in northern direction, turnright into the Uska ulica (Narrow street) and then immediately again right into the Vladimir Nazor street.
94. At thechurch turn left uphill under the overpass.
95. At the intersection with the Hebrangova street, at the foothill of Trški Vrh,continue straight forward pushing the bike over the very steep, but vehicles free Miroslav Krleža street to Trški Vrh, wherethe route continues the same way in both directions.
